Greek tale's far from tragic

OEDIPUSSY Royal & Derngate Friday, February 3 to Saturday, February 18

FOLLOWING on from its acclaimed Made in Northampton season last year, Royal & Derngate starts the new year with an eagerly-awaited collaboration of artists from the forefront of British theatre.

In a co-production with top physical theatre company Spymonkey and adapted and directed by Kneehigh’s Emma Rice, Royal & Derngate presents the brilliantly funny new show Oedipussy which launches in Northampton before heading off on a national tour.

Hot on the heels of their acclaimed Moby Dick, Spymonkey’s hilarious physical comedy combines with the playful storytelling of Rice and writing partner Carl Grose to create an outrageous no-holds-barred subversion of the quintessential Greek tragedy.

The result is a tale of forbidden lust, accidental incest, violent murder and the ultimate dysfunctional family.

Inspired by Barbarella and a little bit of Bond, Spymonkey turn their unique brand of theatrical invention to this greatest of tragic tales, bringing it to life in typically outrageous fashion.

Due to scenes of nudity, the show is recommended for ages 14 and above.

Tickets are £13 to £28. To find out more or to book, call 01604 624811.
