MUSIC icon Midge Ure, solo artist and the front man of top 80s band Ultravox, has been announced as the headline act of an annual event.
He will be in Northampton for June’s Walk In the Park Festival which is held at Wootton Rec.
Ure, who recently reformed Ultravox, continues to play packed houses all over the country and his appearance in the town will be part of his ‘Here and Now’ tour.
He will be entertaining the crowds as part of the festival’s Big Family Night Out on Friday, June 29.
Councillor Brandon Eldred, chairman of the event’s organising committee, said: “It’s a fantastic coup to attract such a big name to our event. When I was making the first enquiries about a headline act, Midge was mentioned to me, and I thought ‘wow, that would be great’.
“By chance, a friend of mine had seen him live only recently and said he was sensational and had the whole venue rocking.
“I just had to pursue it and I’m absolutely thrilled to bits he’s going to be coming to entertain local people here in Northampton at Walk In The Park.”
He added: “We’re also lining up some high profile support acts, plus giving the opportunity for some of our top local bands to be part of our big Family Night.”
Last year’s event was headlined by The Real Thing, S-Club and the X Factor’s Diva Fever, with more than 5,000 attending on the Friday and 10,000 the following day.
Tickets for Friday are £15 for adults and £6 for children.
Admission on Saturday, which will run from 11am to 7pm, is free. Visit www.walkintheparkfestival.co.uk
