16 Councillors to go in next elections

BY LAWRENCE JOHN

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE County Council will have to axe 16 councillors following a review.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) has made a decision about the future number of elected councillors that should represent the county.

This means at the next county elections 57 councillors will be elected rather than the current figure of 73. Council leader,

Councillor Jim Harker, said: “The aim of the review is to reduce electoral inequality across the county and to bring consistency to the numbers of residents councillors represent.”

Although the review wasn’t about saving money it could provide a potential saving of up to £350k over the next four years.
