SOUTH Northamptonshire Council’s Development Control Committee today  resolved to grant planning permission for 781 homes and related development, including a new country park at Norwood Farm.

This development is part of a larger scheme that straddles the district’s boundary with the western edge of Northampton.

The Committee spent over 90 minutes debating the proposal.  Key issues discussed included the need for the development, its direct link to the scheme already approved at Upton Lodge in Northampton Borough, the benefits of the country park, ensuring completion of the new Sandy Lane Relief Road, and flooding issues.

Other issues discussed included education provision, land stability, and ensuring that the Norwood Farm scheme cannot proceed if the adjacent Upton Lodge Site is not built.

Councillor Stephen Clarke, Chairman of the Committee, said: “The Norwood Farm proposal is a major development which the Council recognises will have a big impact on the area between the edge of Northampton and Harpole. The Committee discussed all the key issues at length and concluded that the scheme is acceptable in its own right and will bring important benefits to the community such as the country park. It will also help to prevent housing development in the district’s villages.”
