A FORMER footballer is awaiting sentence after admitting six counts of perverting the course of justice.
Leon McKenzie, 33, of Rectory Farm, Northampton, entered the guilty pleas at Northampton Crown Court on Monday.
The former Cobblers player, who announced his retirement in December, was charged with the offences after it was said he got a garage in London to provide false documents on six occasions between February 2008 and December 2009 after he and his wife were allegedly snapped by speed cameras.
In each case he claimed mechanics had been working on their car when the vehicle was caught speeding.
In December we reported that McKenzie’s lawyer had read a letter out in court sent from the chief constable of Northamptonshire Police Adrian Lee, to his client.
In the letter Mr Lee said the force had taken the ‘exceptional’ decision to reverse the initial caution given to McKenzie as he felt it had ‘failed to address the gravity of the offence.”
McKenzie is due to be sentenced later this month.
