Mum's bid to save PCSOs from axe

BY LAWRENCE JOHN

A MUM has launched a petition in an attempt to save Northampton’s PCSOs from the chop.

Judy Whitmore, 43, from Kingsthorpe, Northampton, wants Northampton

Borough Council, No r t h a m p t o n s h i r e County Council and the Police Authority to shoulder the financial burden and pay for the officers.

Mrs Whitmore is concerned the proposed cut of £100,000 by the borough council, a suggested £500,000 cut by the county council and a reduction by the police to

PSCOs is going to impact on people’s lives. The mum of nine said: “What I am trying to do is get people behind me.

“I want to get as many signatures as possible and hopefully try to spread the petition across Northampton.

“I am going to send the petition to the county council, the borough council and the Police Authority asking them to joint fund the PCSOs.”

She added: “I walk my children to school and knowing the PCSOs are around does make you feel safer. Having the PCSOs means we have seen a drop in crime.

“If the PCSOs go, then the police will start to struggle as they will have to work more hours.”

Mrs Whitmore’s plan is backed by Northampton North MP Michael Ellis.
