Olympics fans will be able to watch the Games broadcast live in Becket's Park from Monday.
A giant screen will show the action between 11am and 6pm until August 11 while daily sports sessions will be held in the Northampton park for free.
Rounding off Northampton’s Three Week Celebration of Sport, every day between 11am and 6pm you can watch Olympic events as they happen - plus they’ll be daily sports sessions and play activities for youngsters - and everything is free.
Some of the Olympics sports being shown on the giant screen include athletics, cycling, sailing, equestrian, gymnastics, boxing, basketball, swimming, diving and football.
Between 11am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, there’ll be free Olympic sport taster sessions for all the family, including athletics, rowing, basketball, badminton, tennis, judo and archery.
Play rangers will also be in the park Monday to Friday, 11am to 2pm, and youngsters aged 4 -13 years can take part in imaginative play sessions which could include getting muddy, building a den, painting, making a tyre swing and much more.
Then on Saturday, 11 August Northampton’s Celebration of Cycling and Big Connect 2 Cycle Ride will take place. Between 11am and 4pm there’ll be a range of cycling activities for all ages and abilities. Bring your bike along and cycle the newly completed Connect2 cycle route for your chance to win some great prizes, including a brand-new £400 bike from Halfords.
Councillor Brandon Eldred, Cabinet member for community engagement said: "The Olympic live site will be another great event in Northampton for residents and visitors to enjoy. Come along to Becket’s Park, watch live coverage from London 2012 and then try the sports out for yourself. Each day there’s something different on offer whether you’re a sports fan already or would like to try something new for the first time.”
Ian Redfern from Northampton Leisure Trust said: "The Olympic Live Site is a fantastic way to round off three weeks celebrating the breath of sport on offer in Northampton. Each day in Becket’s Park local sports clubs will be showcasing what sporting activities are on offer in the town and in the leisure centres. Come along and find a new sport which suits you.”
The events have been organised by Northampton Leisure Trust, Northampton Borough Council, Northampton Sport and Northamptonshire County Council.
