Pedal power raises cash for air ambulance

Staffat a Wilkinson store in Northampton have ‘got on their bikes’ to help raise money for the county’s Air Ambulance.

Fifteen members of the Weston Favell branch hit the saddle last weekend and raised more than £200 for the store’s official charity partner, the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, by taking part in a ‘virtual’ bike ride.

The team members from the store cycled ten miles each on an exercise bike, which was positioned on the shop floor.

Neil Atkins, Wilkinson store manager, said: “We thought the ‘pedalathon’ would be a fun way to raise much needed funds for such a worthwhile charity and despite a few aching muscles, the cycle was certainly a very rewarding event.

“The bike ride is just the start of our fundraising and we can’t wait to raise even more money for the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, which we as a team nominated as our regional charity of the year.”

Tracy Grunwell, fundraising manager at the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, said: “Having such a large and community orientated company like Wilkinsons choose us to be its regional charity of the year is truly fantastic for us.

“We are very grateful for all the support that the teams will be giving us over the coming year and look forward to developing this wonderful partnership.”
