A lollipop lady will continue manning a crossing – after the community raised the funds to pay for her.

Residents, businesses, Towcester Town Council and South Northamptonshire Councillor, Chris Lofts, all clubbed together to raise the £3,800 – the cost of a patrol over 12 months.

Their efforts mean the school crossing patrol in Vernon Road, Towcester, can run for another year.

Northamptonshire County Council cut funds for school crossing patrols in 2010 in a bid to slash £201,000 from its budget.

It appealed for communities to fund their own service.

In South Northants there are now just five patrols – all possible through fundraising.
