Two riders rescued by the Air Ambulance over two days in the county

BY LAWRENCE JOHN

TWO horse riders near Towcester had to be rescued by the Air Ambulance over the weekend.

The first, on Saturday, was a 22-year-old man who had been rolled on by a horse and was suffering from back pain. On arrival at the scene the patient was conscious and alert.

The Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance crew treated the injured rider and applied a girdle brace, pelvic splint, neck collar and immobilised him for the helicopter using a scoop stretcher.

The young man was flown to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for further treatment.

The second rescue, on Sunday, was when a 45-year-old woman who had been riding in a field around 3.30pm fell from her horse injuring herself.

WNAA were called to the scene as the land Ambulance was unable to access the patient due to the ground being too wet making it impassable.

WNAA were able to easily and quickly land in the field next to the patient.

The crew treated her for suspected spinal and pelvic injuries.

She was given pain relief, a neck collar, girdle brace and immobilised.

WNAA flew the rider to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.
