Up and away as balloon festival secures home

Written bySOPHIE SCOTT

The Balloon FestivalThe Balloon Festival is set to stay at Billing Aquadrome for another three years after an agreement was reached.

Northampton Balloon Festival is organised by local balloonists, Barry Newman, John Tyrrell, Stewart Wilyman and Wendy Rousell, who took over the event in 2009 from Northampton Borough Council.

They have now agreed with Pure Leisure Ltd that it will be held at the holiday site for the next three years.

This year is the 24th festival and will be held between August 17-19.

The organisers are now hoping for good ballooning weather over the weekend to allow the flights and the famous Saturday night ‘balloon glow’ to take place.

Director Mr Newman said: “Billing Aquadrome provides a good location for the Balloon Festival and we are delighted that the event will be secure for at least another three years. It is one of the events that Northampton is known for around the world.”

This year 35 hot air balloons are entered for the event and details of those attending and other useful information can be found on the official website www.thenorthamptonballoonfestival.co.uk
