Business booming at leisure centres

The number of people visiting the Redwell and Waendel Leisure Centres is booming.

The end of year report for April 2011- March 2012 show the Redwell Leisure Centre attracted 106,188 visitors which was up by 18 per cent.

This easily beats the end of year figures for 2009-10 and 2010-11 which stood at 90,109 and 87,302 respectively.

The increase in attendance for aerobics and other exercise classes rose from 5,779 in 2010-11 to 23,901 in 2011- 12 – a 300 per cent increase.

Figures for the Waendel Leisure Centre shows attendance for 2011-12 stood at 379,404 compared to a target figure of 327,826 - a 15 per cent increase.

Fitness classes have increased by 47,405 from 115,846 in 2010-11 to 163,351 in 2011-12 - an increase of 41 per cent.

Both centres are run under contract for Wellingborough Council by DC Leisure which has been running the Redwell since October 2006 and the Waendel since June 2007.
