PEOPLE from in and around Rushden dug deep into their pockets and wallets to help raise £1,500 for people devastated by the floods in Pakistan.
On Saturday members of The Rotary Club of Rushden were out and about trying to collect as much as they could to help the victims of the floods.
The money will go to the Rotary International Britain and Ireland Trust which sends it to the Pakistan Flood Appeal Michael Tye, the Rotary Club of Rushden’s publicity officer, said: “It went very well and although we still have some more counting to do we have already got £1,500.
“That was really good as we were collecting for a few hours from 9am to 4pm.
“We had two collections in the High Street in Rushden and one at the Waitrose supermarket. It was more than we expected but a lot of people were putting in £20 notes, £10 notes as well as £1 coins.
“People gave what they could afford.
“We hope the final figure will be at least £1,600.
“We will be sending out the money by the end of the week.
“What I would like to say is we are extremely grateful to the people in the Rushden area for being so generous.
“It shows a lot of people care about what is going on in Pakistan.”
