Councillor wants parking action

BY LAWRENCE JOHN

A WELLINGBOROUGH councillor has raised concern about the lack of action in launching a residents’ parking scheme in the town.

Cllr Paul Crofts, who represents the Castle Ward, is getting fed up with the lack of action.

Last summer, the council approved the introduction of a parking scheme around the train station in Midland Road but needed to investigate with the county council what form this should take and how much it would cost.

In order to raise the issue Cllr Crofts tabled three questions at the full council on Tuesday.

These were:

- What is the current position in carrying out the various council resolutions in respect of the above scheme?

- What, if any, are the current barriers to implementing this scheme?

- When is it expected that this scheme will be in place?

Responding to this, chair of the development committee, Cllr Graham Lawman said an exhibition was being prepared and a consultation would go ahead in the near future.

He said: “The scheme would cost £15,000 and East Midlands Trains were being asked to contribute to this scheme.”

The Department of Transport has given the green light to the scheme going ahead but it is now a question of finding funding.

Cllr Lawman added the parking scheme, with help from Northamptonshire County

Council, could be up and running by the end of the financial year.
