THE Friends of Irchester Library want some answers from the County Council.
Today, a group of officers will meet a delegation from the group who want to know what funding is in place for the village facility during the 2012/13 financial year.
This month the authority releases details of its pre-budget plans.
As a result, the Friends hope they will get answers.
In September, the council launched the public consultation phase of a library review which aims to ensure the county’s libraries are fit for the 21st century by
March 2015.
In the months before this was launched, the authority spoke with key groups and organizations already involved with libraries, such as friends groups, district, borough, parish and town councils to get their feedback about how the service can be developed to ensure they can continue to thrive despite the ongoing financial challenges.
In September, cabinet member for customer services, Councillor Heather Smith, said:
“These are your libraries and we are proposing a future where your contribution – in money, in time, or in kind – is asked for and recognized and appreciated.
“This review sets out a plan where instead of closing libraries or reducing opening hours, we diversify the way libraries are funded.
“We intend to review how we are doing in summer 2013 as a midpoint but if progress is not on track we will have to consider closures once again.”
Treasurer of the Friends of Irchester Library, Jane Kerman, said: “It would be nice to know some sort of idea what they were expecting from the friends group.”
