Mum poses as her daughter to catch man 'grooming'

BY JONATHAN REILLY

A MUM caught out a man trying to groom her 11-year-old daughter on Facebook after posing as her daughter and handing the information over to the police.

Paul Spokes, 45 from Jubilee Crescent, Wellingborough, appeared in Northampton Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to attempting to incite a child under 13 years old in a sexual activity in last month.

The court heard how the mother initially found out about the Facebook message in which Spokes had written “What’s your age pretty babe?”

The mum, who cannot be named for legal reasons, then deleted her daughter’s Facebook account, but found out Spokes’ email address from the social networking site and added him to MSN instant messenger.

Rebecca Wade, prosecuting, said: “On MSN Spokes said he was 45 years old and asked for a picture.

The mother then used a search engine to find a picture of a girl and sent it to him.”

He later said, ‘We can’t talk about sex because you are too young.’

The mother replied ‘We have talked about it in school.’

Spokes then said ‘What do you know about sex?’ and asked the question three times.

“He also said: ‘I will be happy when we can have a webcam chat so we can see each other without clothes on.’ ”

The mother then passed on the transcript of the conversations to police.

Although he pleaded guilty, his sentencing was adjourned until tomorrow, and he was remanded in custody, after debates between

Judge Ian Alexander QC and barristers over the charges which Spokes pleaded to.
