THELeader of UKIP Nigel Farage was in the the county this morning to announce the party’s candidate to stand in the election for Northamptonshire’s first Police and Crime Commissioner.
Ex-military man and conty resident, Jim MacArthur has been selected to fight for the job which will be contested in a public vote in November.
Mr MacArthur has an impeccable military record having held Commissioned rank in both the RAF and Army, Furthermore he served for three years in the Special Air Service.
Latterly for over 25 years he was a senior executive within two major UK Companies each of which was larger than the Northamptonshire force.
He was responsible for all matters involving the investigation of Crime and had a world wide remit to do so.
He was a member of the European Airports and Seaports Police Association and attended EU security committee meetings where he advised officials on Policing and Security related matters.
Until he resigned earlier this week in order to stand in the election for the PCC post, he was a serving Special Constable in the Northamptonshire Police.
He said:“ Our County force a large organisation and policing is a complex business.
“The new Commissioner will have many varied problems to resolve.
“I do not believe someone without Police and senior management experience in similar sized or larger organisations will be able to successfully rise to the many challenges which lie ahead.”
