Northamptonshire have boosted their seam bowling attack with the signing of former Lancashire youngster Sam Sweeney on a two-year deal.
Sweeney featured regularly for the county’s second XI during the 2011 season, taking 16 wickets at an average of 24.12 in the Championship.
He also appeared in the Second XI Trophy and Twenty20 competitions, as well as playing against Warwickshire Bears in a Clydesdale Bank 40 match at Edgbaston.
“I am pleased that Sam has signed a two year deal with Northants Cricket,” said head coach David Capel.
“He has impressed the coaching staff through producing some encouraging performances in our second Xl during 2011."
“Sam is settling in Northampton well during the off-season and working hard on the physical and technical aspects of his game."
The 20-year-old has previously featured for the Lancashire Under-19s and is now determined to force his way into the reckoning for first class honours.
Sweeney said: “I’m very happy to have signed for Northants Cricket. I will try and push for a first XI spot, whilst continuing to improve my all-round game.
“Everyone has been very welcoming since I arrived, and made me feel part of the team. I am looking forward to this challenge.”
