Gavin given spot in new Corvette

Oliver Gavin will be racing the new Corvette Daytona Prototype in 2012 after being confirmed as one of the drivers competing in the three Spirit of Daytona endurance events.

Oliver GavinYardley Hastings-based Gavin is set to take part in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the Sahlens Six Hours of the Glen and the Indianapolis Three Hour race.

The 39-year-old will be joined by Antonio Garcia and Richard Westbrook for the races and he is looking forward to taking part in the Grand Am endurance races.

He said: "I am really delighted to be part of Spirit of Daytona Racing, driving with Antonio and Richard in the new Corvette Daytona Prototype.

"I think this is an extremely exciting time to be in Grand Am and driving a Corvette in that series.

"The car looks fantastic and a real race car; I am itching to get on the track with it and see what it can do.

"A huge amount of work has gone into putting this all together at Pratt & Miller and, having worked with them for the last 11 years, I know just what they are capable of.

"This will undoubtedly be another fine machine from them and it should allow us to really challenge for victories."

Gavin's main focus this year will again be on the American Le Mans Series, where he will again drive for Corvette Racing with Jan Magnussen as his team mate.

Magnussen is also set to link up with Gavin, Gracia and Westbrook for the Daytona 24 hour race on January 28-29.
