Ebdon up against former conquerer Dott

SNOOKER
Peter Ebdon will face Graeme Dott in a re-run of the 2006 final in the opening round of this year's Betfred.com World Snooker Championship.

Ebdon was beaten 18-14 in a marathon final against the Scot four years ago, with the match finishing at 12.53am.

Dott had to qualify for this year's event at the Crucible in Sheffield, beating Jimmy Michie 10-5 in the final qualifying round on Tuesday.

Wellingborough cueman Ebdon, who was World Champion in 2002, is facing a battle to stay in the top 16 ranked players after an indifferent season so far.

Meanwhile, former Irthlingborough resident Shaun Murphy has been drawn against Gerard Greene in the televised stages.

Greene defeated Ebdon's former practise partner Rory McLeod 10-9 in the qualifiers at Prestatyn to seal his place in the last 32.

This year's World Championship runs from Saturday April 17 until Monday May 3.
