Members of Northampton’s twinning association travelled to Germany to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the agreement.

Mayor Roger Conroy and his wife Jenny, deputy mayor of Marburg, Dr. Franz Kahle, and other friends and politicians enjoyed themselves at last week’s reception and dinner celebrating the friendship.

The historic deal was sealed in Marburg's historic Guildhall on October 26, 1992.

Mayor Conroy said: “One of the aims of twinning cities is to cultivate mutual understanding and tolerance across borders and language barriers on a personal, municipal and international level.

“Thus in the end, this civic engagement, supported by the municipalities, makes a contribution to international understanding and secures lasting peace in Europe.”

Northampton is also twinned with Poitiers in France.
